Cherries 101: Not Just Another Pretty Face

When it comes to nutrition and health benefits, this luscious fruit is taking its place along side super fruits such as blueberries and pomegranates. 

The bright red color of cherries is not only appealing, but is functional as well. It is due to anthocyanins (antioxidant flavanoids -that protect the body from oxidative damage). Translation: They're good for you. Tart cherries contain high levels of melatonin, an antioxidant produced naturally by the body that is thought to help slow the aging process as well as fight jetlag and regulate sleep. Cherries contain vitamin C, as well as being a good source of fiber, which helps keep the digestive system on track.

Cherries have also been shown to reduce pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis and gout.

Take the time to incorporate cherries into your diet. Eating them fresh is delicious, but if you like dried fruit, put some in your cereal, oatmeal, trail mix, etc. Blend with orange or any of your favorite juices for a refreshing drink. Cherries are versatile and the benefits are tremendous!

How To Get Your Guy To Eat Organic.

So, you have taken the plunge into healthy eating. Don't be surprised if your man doesn't share your enthusiasm, though. Here are some sure fire ways to get you both on the same page.

1. Don't Nag.  Being subtle can go a long way. Instead of expounding on the dangers of processed and chemical laden foods, tell him how great you feel since you have been eating healthy. Don't lay it on too thick. He may not say anything, but he'll be making mental notes.

2. Make his favorite meal using all organic ingredients. This will ONLY work if you are already a great cook! If you are not, make a reservation at the best organic restaurant in your town and have a fun night out exploring the menu. Or call ahead to the restaurant to see if they can prepare his favorite meal as a special dish.

3.Accentuate The Positive. If you have finally got him to eat his first goat cheese omelet, give him praise and keep it moving. If he is still wary of your next move, don't be discouraged and revert back to your old eating habits if he isn't coming around fast enough. Stay positive, and your good example will rub off on him and hopefully he will want to take this wonderfully healthy journey together with you!
